A Rebellious (And Compassionate) Guide to Mercury Retrograde
I’m not an astrologer, but I know a thing or two about Mercury Rx.
There are many outlets that can share the ins and outs of the transit, how it may impact your sign, what to do and not to do, etc. I’m just a systems strategist with an affinity for reality television.
My relationship to Mercury Retrograde has changed over the years; when I first started getting into astrology, I was in a place of “let’s freak out about this.” Over time, I shifted into a place of “let’s be mindful of this.”
If you are unfamiliar with astrology and reality tv, the following comparisons are going to mean absolutely nothing to you. Head here instead.
If I had to describe it, I’d say…
Mercury Rx is a new bombshell entering the Love Island villa.
It’s Scheana Shay allegedly physically assaulting Raquel Rachel Leviss for having an affair with Sandoval.
It’s Aviva Drescher throwing her prosthetic leg at a dinner party.
It’s this mime approaching Gizelle and Karen in the middle of a tense luncheon.
Basically… when Mercury is in retrograde, expect the unexpected.
Expect plans to fall through or hit a snag.
Expect misunderstandings and tense feelings in relationships.
Expect messes, physical and emotional.
Expect random mimes to approach you in public.
You may hear things like, don’t sign a contract or make any big decisions during this time. Back up your files and double-check texts and emails before you send them. Ask for clarity when communicating with others.
Generally good advice regardless of Mercury’s bullshit.
But more importantly, I’d say: Focus less on avoiding the unexpected and more on what is.
Sign the contract if it feels good.
Say that wild ass thing you want to say if it feels justified.
Launch a project if you’re ready.
AND, be mindful that things could get messy or go in a different direction than what you originally expected.
Mercury Rx is a crash course in relinquishing control taught by the universe itself. The good thing is, there’s no homework!
The next few weeks could bring a lot of Jim Halpert reacting at the camera moments to your life. I encourage you to approach these situations with compassion and perhaps even a bit of humor.
If you find yourself in a Mercurial pickle, ask yourself: What can I learn from this? What could I do differently in the future?
✨ Here are some additional reminders:
Take your time/pace yourself
Make sure you know what you’re sending and/or signing (it doesn’t hurt to read that thing one more time)
Save your work often
Turn on calendar notifications (or add an extra one for good measure)
Maybe don’t try to set up/learn new technology right now if you don’t have to
Take a breath. We’re all doing our best
Take this time to reflect on your systems — what’s working? What’s not? What can you change? Make a list that you can start implementing in September!
